A young swimmer named Louisa Henry excelled in the 50-meter breaststroke event at the Canada Games swimming competition in St. John’s. Despite being just 11 years old, she won her heat after previously participating in the 50-meter freestyle race. Henry felt a mix of surprise and pride upon learning that she was competing against athletes several years older than her among the 2,000 participants at the games.
Expressing her excitement, Henry mentioned feeling a bit strange given the age gap with other competitors but was thrilled by her performance. She draws inspiration from swimming sensation Summer McIntosh and her older sisters, Beatrice and Josephine, who are also athletes. All three sisters proudly represented Team Northwest Territories at the competition.
Henry’s family shared her joy and pride in her accomplishments. Despite approaching her 12th birthday soon, she prioritizes the Canada Games experience as a significant highlight of her summer, acknowledging the unique opportunity it offers compared to her annual birthday celebrations.
