Today, we welcome James Elder on the program. James serves as the global spokesperson for UNICEF and has undertaken five visits to Gaza following the October attacks to document what UNICEF has labeled a “war on children.” His appearance comes shortly after a UN-supported entity officially classified the food crisis in Gaza as a famine, a situation characterized by UN’s humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, as being deliberately caused by Israel’s systematic hindrances.
Elder’s professional experience includes field reporting from areas such as Darfur, Yemen, and Afghanistan. However, he emphasizes that the conditions in Gaza stand out as particularly distressing. Throughout our discussion, we will delve into his first-hand observations on the ground and the moral duty of bearing witness in times of conflict.
