UK weather: Heatwave horror as Britain forecast mega 22C and will be hotter than Ibiza

Must read

Brits are set for balmy weather ahead with it hotter in the UK than Ibiza at the start of May. Weather maps show the country turning orange as we are set to bask in 22C temperatures on May 2, which makes it warmer than many holiday hotspots abroad – including Ibiza where it is predicted to be 20C with showers.

Charts by Ventusky show the mercury rising over the previous weekend with Sunday, April 27 a warm day for most of England with temperatures in the high teens and low 20Cs. In Scotland, it is notably lower in many areas where it will struggle to get higher than the low teens.

That weather pattern continues over the coming days but it is not until May 2 that the warm temperatures are more widespread.

The hottest places are set to be in the south east of England, as well as western parts of England and Scotland.

The Met Office stated that a high pressure system is expected to sit over the country during that week and bring with it “fine weather”, although it does say that there is a “small chance” of more extensive showers.

Generally the temperatures are also expected to be above normal.

“Fairly changeable at first, with cloud and rain moving slowly east across the UK, probably easing and breaking into showers as it does so, with more settled conditions developing later in the weekend away from the far northwest,” reads the prediction from the national weather agency for the period from April 26 to May 5.

“Into the following week, it will most probably be high pressure dominated, with large amounts of fine weather, and perhaps the odd heavy shower, especially in the south.

“Any more unsettled interludes liable to be brief and mainly affecting western or northwestern UK.

“However, there is a small chance of an alternative scenario coming off, with cloudier and wetter weather more extensive, especially across the south and west of the UK.

“Winds are most likely to be light, with temperatures probably at or slightly above normal.”

Meanwhile before that, for the rest of this week we are set for a mixture of sunshine and showers where temperatures are more or less around the seasonal average.

“Tuesday will be a bright day for many, with sunny spells and a scattering of showers. Rain returning to the west later in the day. Feeling warmer for many,” said a forecast from the Met Offfice.

“Early rain clearing to sunshine and showers on Wednesday. Mainly dry Thursday, with some sunshine. Rain returning to western areas Friday, drier further east. Feeling warm in the sunshine throughout.”
