ITV The 1% Club viewers all say the same thing over ‘ridiculous’ £96,000 question

Must read

The 1% Club’s exclusive ranks welcomed a new member on Saturday, when one plucky contestant bagged a cool £96,000 in a heart-stopping ITV game show face-off. However, his victory stirred up quite the split among viewers over just how tricky the winning question really was.

With its soaring popularity, the series has clinched the title of Britain’s favourite quizzer since it kicked off last year. Lee Mack, the quick-witted comedian, was in charge of proceedings, firing out brain-tickling teasers that had the pack of 100 bright sparks striving to prove they were in that clever clogs one percent.

The puzzler that scooped Saturday’s jackpot asked: “I keep forgetting my four-digit PIN number. I know each digit is higher than the previous digit but I need this diagram to remember it.”

The challenge came complete with a confusing bunch of letters and left viewers squabbling over its difficulty – some thought it was a doddle compared to others on the night. Contestant Dominic cracked it with his spot-on guess of 1489, leaving as the solo victor to nab the whopping £96,000.

X, formerly known as Twitter was ablaze post-show, with fans sounding off their two cents. One user posted: “That one per cent question was just a word search puzzle, found earlier questions much harder”.

Another added: “Yeah that was a question of speed more than anything”, reports Yorkshire Live.

Viewers tuning in from their homes also had a taste of victory, with many sharing their wins on their mobiles via the official 1% Club account. One keen participant highlighted the diverse range of viewers, commenting: “I couldn’t even understand the question, but my nine-year-old daughter got it in 30 seconds!”.

Earlier in the show, Lee Mack had caused fury online after an “insensitive” jibe towards an eliminated contestant. He took aim at Diane Moorland and joked it was ironic she left the show on a question about maps due to her last name.

However, it was his response to how she would have spent the money that got viewers at home riled. She confessed to the host she would have loved to have been able to get a nose job with any cash prize.

She explained that it was because she didn’t like her nose and despite looking stunned initially, Lee said: “Your nose is fantastic, why would you want to change your nose.”

She responded to say she had “never liked it,” before Lee fired back: “To be fair, it does look like though that if you took your glasses off the nose might come off as well.”

Diana looked to take the joke as lighthearted banter, but social media users criticised the joke saying it was “brutal”.
