Disney+’s ‘triumphant’ series dubbed a ‘masterpiece’ ahead of second and final season

Must read

Disney+’s critically lauded series is basking in even more glowing critiques as fans eagerly await its much-anticipated second season.

The show’s initial run hit the screens in 2022, quickly securing its spot as one of the platform’s most critically acclaimed offerings.

Despite not topping the viewership charts for Disney that year, the series has cultivated a fervent cult following, with legions of fans on edge for its concluding chapter.

We’re talking none other than Andor, the breathtaking prequel to 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which itself sets the stage for the iconic 1977 film, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

The upcoming season will continue the journey of the intrepid rebel Cassian Andor (portrayed by Diego Luna), delving into his life four years prior to the crucial Death Star mission, as the Rebel Alliance gathers strength and intelligence to overthrow the formidable Galactic Empire, reports the Mirror US.

With the new season’s debut just around the corner, the Star Wars offshoot, already boasting an impressive 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 82 on Metacritic, has been dubbed yet another “masterpiece” by its creator Tony Gilroy.

Forbes didn’t hold back in their praise, proclaiming season two to be “a masterpiece, some of the best Star Wars ever made”.

Their review gushed further: “This is not just a great Star Wars show, but a great political thriller regardless of its fictional universe or genre.

“This is so much better than anything else we’ve seen in this universe. And I include the original trilogy here.

“While that holds powerful nostalgia over me, and while I love Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and the droids and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) all so much, and find their adventures thrilling and magical, Andor just takes all of this and strips away the epic hero’s journey and the magical Force and leaves us with a political thriller that is at once intense and deeply human.”

IGN was in harmony with this sentiment, lauding the finale of Andor as a “thrilling conclusion” and marking it with a stellar 9/10 rating.

Further gushing about the series, IGN shared: “Andor is one of the very best things ever to come out of the Star Wars universe.

“It’s a masterfully constructed political and espionage thriller unafraid to tackle real-world issues and challenge the oppressive nature of bureaucracy. It’s Jason Bourne and Michael Clayton stood side-by-side wearing Stormtrooper armour.”

TechRadar also chimed in, hailing the season as a “devastating near-masterpiece” and celebrating the show as the “best piece of Star Wars live-action media since the original movie trilogy”.

The Independent too acknowledged Andor, though pointing out it began its story with a “slow start”. Yet, they confirmed: “Star Wars’ grittiest spin-off flies high once more”, rounding off their opinion by calling the second season “one final triumphant run”.

Empire magazine has lavished praise on the latest season, awarding it a perfect five stars and asserting: “It will make you fall in love with Star Wars, whether for the first time or the 50th.”
