Virgin Media customers who have not updated their TV set-top boxes recently are advised to do so promptly as the BBC iPlayer app will soon be inaccessible on older devices. The company has notified users with TiVo boxes over six months old that they will lose access to iPlayer starting July 23. Affected devices include aging TiVo models launched over a decade ago, while newer V6 and 360 models will not be impacted. Virgin Media has been contacting customers with outdated boxes to arrange upgrades, and it is recommended to respond positively to these notifications. Failure to upgrade before the deadline will result in the loss of iPlayer access. This move to discontinue support for older devices is a common practice seen with other apps like WhatsApp on outdated smartphones. In addition to maintaining compatibility with services like BBC iPlayer, Virgin Media regularly updates newer devices to offer bonus channels, such as British Screen Classics and wedotv movies.
