Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford shares update on mum after ‘horrible’ infection

Must read

Ruth Langsford has issued an update on her mother’s health following a ‘horrible chest infection’. The TV star said that while Joan, 94, isn’t quite well enough to ‘come out yet’, it’s hoped she will return to her usual self very soon.

“Thank you for all your kind wishes for my Mum,” the Loose Women panellist wrote on Instagram yesterday. “… she’s doing a lot better after that horrible chest infection.

“…Not quite well enough to come out yet, but I hope she’ll be back dancing in my kitchen very soon. In the meantime she’s enjoying lots of cuddles with Nurse Maggie!”

Joan hasn’t been too fortunate with her health in recent months, having also fractured her pelvis in December, no more than a year after breaking her hip. Although the family were relieved Joan wouldn’t require surgery, she did need to spend some time in the hospital to recover.

In a December Instagram post, Ruth explained: “No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas… she’s had a fall and fractured her pelvis!

“She’s ok…ish, no surgery required thank goodness but she needs rest and time to heal now. She’s in hospital at the moment but I’m hoping to get her home soon. This time last year she fell and broke her hip but recovered well.”

The ordeal significantly impacted Ruth’s outlook on life, especially since her mother couldn’t enjoy their usual Christmas traditions last year. “She’s a very strong woman so I’m sure she’ll recover from this too,” Ruth added. “Put’s life and what’s important into perspective eh?”

Joan was treated by nursing staff at Woking Community Hospital and St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. Thankfully, she was well enough to return home by January, joining Ruth and her dog, Maggie.

In a separate post, Ruth wrote: “She’s recovering brilliantly after fracturing her pelvis in December….charging around again on her walker like a good ‘un! Hope I’ll have her grit and energy when I’m 94! LEGEND.”

Joan’s infection also comes just months after Ruth herself suffered a health issue and explained to fans that she’d been housebound for days. “I’ve had a couple of days at home with the lurgy but feeling better today so I ventured out for a stroll with Maggie,” the 64-year-old said previously.

Sharing a quick clip of her dog trotting along the pavement, she added: “Nice to get some fresh air.”
