Boxing fans were left frustrated after Conor Benn wasn’t asked about his failed drugs test in a lie-detector session ahead of his clash with Chris Eubank Jr.
The British boxing stars will finally settle their long-time feud on Saturday night. Their middleweight dust-up is scheduled to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Since confirmation of the bout, both men have traded barbs on several occasions online.
Benn, 28, has recently been cleared to reapply for his British Boxing Board of Control licence after a National Anti-Doping Panel judged that UK Anti-Doping must lift his temporary suspension as they were not “comfortably satisfied” a doping offence had been committed.
The British star was under investigation after two adverse analytical findings in VADA tests for the prohibited substance clomiphene, a fertility drug which has performance-enhancing benefits. His second test was revealed just days before he was due to face Eubank Jr back in October 2022. Having been cleared, he’s now able to fight in the United Kingdom.
With just a few days to go until fight night, Benn took part in a lie-detector test in a ‘no-filter interview’ with Ring Magazine. Throughout the chat, Brit was asked to provide yes or no answers to multiple questions regarding his career and the fight with Eubank Jr and his dad.
Fans were quick to flock to the comments section and express their disappointment after Benn didn’t receive any questions about his past. One wrote: “We all came for one question that didn’t occur,” while another commented: “His team definitely told them don’t ask about PEDs.” A third posted: “I’ve never seen Conor so nervous before. They had such as good opportunity to expose him here and they didn’t take it.”
Another joked: “There was only one question I egg-xpected,” while another posted: “Should’ve asked whether he knowingly took PEDs.” Another fan had a theory as to why the Brit wasn’t asked the glaring question.
“Definitely told them to not ask about the ONLY question we want to know,” another commented. Fans continued to express their disappointment: “The absence of the question we all want to know the answer to answers the question,” a fan wrote while another commented: “Not good not asking THE question. No filter interview?”
Benn has always denied any wrongdoing. In regards to his upcoming bout, it’s clear that there’s a real animosity between the pair.
Regarding his feelings towards Eubank Jr, ‘The Destroyer’ told Sky Sports: “I don’t like Chris, I think he’s an idiot!” He added: “I hate what he stands for. I hate who he is as a man. What he’s chasing. Just him as a man, personally, for reasons that aren’t public… personal reasons between me and Chris that he’s fully aware of as to why I completely dislike him.”
