Prince Harry looked like a celebrity ‘spare’ as Meghan Markle oozed star quality during a rare joint appearance, according to a body language expert. The Duke of Sussex made a surprise outing with his wife in New York City, where Meghan spoke at the TIME100 summit.
Although Harry didn’t join her on stage for her interview, the pair arrived at the venue together before they posed on the red carpet, with Meghan wearing a chic Ralph Lauren linen suit. It was a rare joint public appearance for the couple as Meghan continues to work on her business ventures while Harry concentrates on his charity work.
And according to body language expert Judi James, as they entered the venue for the summit, the pair could not have looked different. She told the Mirror : “The huge chip on Harry’s shoulder when he lived as a working royal in the UK was being described and treated as the ‘Spare’.
“So it’s rather poignant to see him acting as a celebrity ‘Spare’ here as his wife oozes star quality. Yes, he’s supporting Meghan and rightly so, but their arrival protocol here showed Meghan graciously greeting their host with a warm hug while Harry appeared to be ignored.
“He dashed round the car, clutching anxiously at his jacket and he held his hand out to touch his wife to form a double act, but Meghan’s focus was on her host with both her arms raised in an intentional gesture to ‘announce’ her hug, meaning Harry’s hand didn’t meet its mark.”
Judi added: “His eyes dropped and he resorted to an alternative, awkward-looking ritual of hiking his pants to avoid looking as though he’d been left hanging. Instead of turning to broker a greeting and intro between Harry and their host, Meghan just turned to walk into the venue, leaving Harry to connect with one arm held out in the air.”
However, she did note that the pair seemed incredibly close as they stood for the cameras on the red carpet. She explained: “Their red carpet pose seemed to reflect Meghan’s on-stage praise later as the pair stood with the sides of their torsos touching while Meghan performed a dazzling smile for the cameras.”
In her talk at the summit, Meghan revealed her son Prince Archie’s first tooth is loose, as his cousin Prince Louis was pictured with two missing front teeth.
She said it had been an “incredibly busy” time recently as she launched her Netflix show, new podcast and lifestyle brand As Ever but being a mother gave her “perspective”. She added that Archie’s first tooth had come loose and she hoped she would be back home from the event in New York City before it came out.
It comes as the Prince and Princess of Wales shared an image of their son, Louis, to mark his birthday yesterday in which the young royal can be seen smiling with a gap for his two front teeth.
The duchess said of her new ventures: “I think as a working mom, and again, these are three projects that we’re all launching really at the same time.
“The behind-the-scenes for the past year and a half have been incredibly busy and ambitious, but to see it all come to life and try to give yourself the space and the grace to make mistakes, to know that you’re not going to get it right every day, and at the same time to prioritise what we’re going to put out as our next tranche of skews is equally important to me as Archie losing his first tooth this week which is about to happen, and I just hope we’re back home in time for it – that it all matters.
“And when you look at your life through that perspective, which frankly, being a parent gives you the most illuminating perspective, because what is seemingly so big, somehow becomes so microscopic in importance compared to what’s happening with your children. That’s certainly how I feel, that you just make time to do it all and I think that’s what is hopeful, that’s what feels like the dream. ”
