Actress Sofia Vergara missed the Emmy Awards on Sunday due to a sudden medical emergency. The 53-year-old Modern Family star had prepared all day to attend the event at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre but had to change plans last minute.
Vergara experienced an allergic reaction just before getting into her car, leading her to go to the emergency room instead of the ceremony. She shared on Instagram a photo of her swollen left eye, apologizing for missing the Emmys and explaining the unexpected allergy incident.
She also posted a picture from the hospital bed and a video of herself rinsing her eye in a water fountain. Despite being scheduled to present an award, comedian Nate Bargatze stepped in as the host in her absence.
Supportive messages poured in from fans, wishing Vergara a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, other notable presenters at the event included Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jude Law, and Tina Fey, while Eric Dane, who recently disclosed his ALS diagnosis, was also absent from the show.
Dane had planned to make his first public appearance since sharing his health news in an interview earlier this year. The Emmy Awards saw The Pitt, The Studio, and Adolescence among the big winners, demonstrating the diverse talent recognized at the prestigious event.
