A circus performer had a frightening accident during a hair hanging act when she plummeted to the ground mid-performance. Shocking video footage captured the moment acrobat Aliane Dias fell to the ground just seconds into her act, causing gasps from the audience as she landed with a thud. Paramedics provided immediate care on-site before transporting her to the emergency room.
The incident took place at Circo Robatiny in Miracema, located northeast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on September 13. The circus later reassured the public that Aliane received swift and effective treatment at the Municipal Emergency Room and is now recovering well.
Hair hanging performances involve the artist being suspended in the air by their tightly braided hair, secured around a metal ring attached to a suspension cable. The performer typically executes spins, swings, contortions, and other tricks during the act.
The circus confirmed that the fall resulted from a mistake by the performer rather than equipment failure. They explained that the artist is responsible for securing their hair according to protocol, and in this instance, a deviation from the usual tying technique led to the accident. The exact cause is still under investigation, pending Aliane’s full recovery.
Despite the incident, the circus proceeded with their scheduled show the next evening. This incident recalls a similar accident in April last year when another circus performer fell during an aerial act at O Circo Aquatico in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The performer was swiftly taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition and conscious, currently recovering.
