Aldi has announced a roster of 23 towns and cities where it aims to establish new stores in the near future. The discount supermarket has earmarked these locations as part of an extensive £1.6 billion expansion strategy set to unfold over the next two years. In a recent trading update, Aldi disclosed plans to unveil 80 new stores between 2026 and 2027.
In addition to launching new outlets, the investment will be channeled into enhancing existing stores and fortifying the distribution network. With the current count of 1,060 stores, Aldi has previously outlined its intentions to escalate this figure to 1,500 stores nationwide. The company foresees this expansion drive generating numerous employment opportunities and fostering growth for British suppliers.
Among the areas on Aldi’s radar for new store setups in the upcoming years are:
Giles Hurley, the Chief Executive Officer for Aldi UK and Ireland, emphasized the brand’s commitment to providing top-quality products at competitive prices, devoid of membership clubs or marketing gimmicks. He highlighted Aldi’s mission to extend its reach to communities that are currently underserved by the supermarket chain. Hurley underscored Aldi’s dedication to meeting this demand by allocating an unprecedented £1.6 billion investment over the next two years to bring affordable groceries to a wider customer base.
Aldi recently released its financial results for the fiscal year ending in December 2024, reporting a surge in sales to £18.1 billion. The company noted a dip in operating profit to £435.5 million, attributing it partly to customer price reductions, infrastructure investments, and enhanced employee wages.
Furthermore, Aldi disclosed a reduction in prices for over 900 products across its range in recent months, with a total investment exceeding £300 million in price adjustments since the beginning of 2025. The supermarket also raised the minimum hourly wage for store assistants twice this year, with national rates starting at £13.02 per hour and £14.35 within the M25 area as of the current month.
