A targeted attack on a Regina home left an 11-year-old girl injured by 23 bullets last month, according to the police. The father of the girl revealed that out of the 23 bullets, only one entered his daughter’s bedroom, hitting her on the side. He mentioned that three bullets also entered their bedroom, narrowly missing him and his wife who were in bed at the time.
The father described the harrowing experience of the bullets hitting their bed frame and mattress, with one passing over them. The girl was quickly taken to the hospital in Regina and later transferred to Saskatoon for surgery, where she received medical treatment for internal injuries.
Following the removal of the chest tube, the girl began walking again and is now back in school, recovering well. The family, however, remains fearful and has relocated to a different area due to safety concerns.
Regina police have charged two men, Anthony Nahbexie, 20, and Devon Nahbexie, 18, with attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the shooting incident. The two suspects were set to appear in Regina provincial court. Acting police chief Lorilee Davies confirmed that the shooting was targeted and not a random act.
Neighbour Muhammad Ishaq expressed shock over the incident, stating that the community was deeply affected and filled with fear. He mentioned his close ties to the injured girl and the lasting trauma the shooting will have on her. Concerned residents are urged to provide any information or video footage related to the incident to aid in the ongoing investigation.
