Woman Admits to Throwing Newborn Out of Window

-

A woman has admitted guilt following accusations of throwing a newborn baby out of a window in a plastic bag, as per reports. The infant was discovered with severe injuries outside a residence at approximately 2:40 am on August 30, 2024. Subsequently, the baby was swiftly taken to a hospital, and a 25-year-old suspect was promptly apprehended by the authorities.

While the police did not officially confirm the woman’s relationship to the baby, she has been identified as Irine Jerotich, aged 26, by the Australian Associated Press (AAP). Jerotich made a brief appearance at Melbourne Magistrates Court on September 15, where she faced charges of reckless conduct endangering life.

The incident occurred in Dandenong North, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. During the court proceedings, Jerotich acknowledged her guilt to the single offense without the need for further statements. Details of the crime were not disclosed in court on that day, although previous charges indicated that the woman placed the newborn in a plastic bag before tossing it out of a bathroom window onto concrete.

The AAP declared that the offense had put the unnamed infant at risk of death. The exact timing of the incident is unclear, but it transpired between August 29 and 30 of the previous year. In a statement issued by the police in September, it was mentioned that the woman had been charged with conduct endangering life and recklessly causing injury, with the latter charge subsequently dropped.

Jerotich is presently out on bail and has been instructed not to leave Victoria, remaining at her residence until the case proceeds to a pre-sentence hearing in the County Court of Victoria in February, as reported by local media sources. Former housemates of the accused woman, who were unnamed at the time, expressed surprise at not knowing about her pregnancy.

One individual previously recounted calling emergency services after waking up to the situation. Victoria Police confirmed that the woman in question had been transported to a hospital following the incident. The woman’s housemate conveyed relief at the baby’s well-being and expressed readiness to provide support upon her release from the hospital.
