Keir Starmer emphasizes that the Battle of Britain anniversary serves as a reminder of the core values that unite us as a nation.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister will join the commemoration event at Westminster Abbey to mark the 85th anniversary of the World War II victory. Following the ceremony, he will witness the flypast of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Typically, the flight consists of an Avro Lancaster heavy bomber accompanied by two fighters, a Supermarine Spitfire, and a Hawker Hurricane.

In a statement to the Mirror, Mr. Starmer expressed, “Today, we take a moment to honor the brave individuals of the Battle of Britain, who bravely defended our skies, freedoms, and future against overwhelming odds.”

He added, “Their bravery symbolizes not just a military feat but a deep demonstration of national unity and determination. This occasion signifies more than a pivotal moment in World War II; it underscores the values that unite us: duty, sacrifice, and the belief that Britain shines brightest when we stand united.”

Their enduring legacy resonates in the peace we cherish today and in our shared duty to uphold the liberties they fought for. We will always remember their sacrifices.

During the event, the PM will engage with various dignitaries including the Dean of Westminster, Squadron Leader Charlie Warden, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, and the Chief of the Air Staff. Marshal of the Royal Air Force, The Lord Craig, the last living officer in the British Armed Forces to have held a five-star rank while on active duty, will also be present.
