Canada’s Nicholas Bennett and Arianna Hunsicker secured bronze medals at the Para swimming world championships held in Singapore. Bennett, representing Parksville, B.C., clinched the bronze in the men’s 200-metre freestyle S14 event, finishing in one minute 53.97 seconds. Despite narrowly missing his national record, he expressed satisfaction with his performance, acknowledging the strong competition from Great Britain’s William Ellard and Brazil’s Gabriel Bandeira.
Bennett emphasized the importance of the ongoing rivalry in motivating him to constantly improve his skills. His bronze marked his third consecutive podium finish in the same event at world championships, a feat previously achieved by only one other Canadian male Para swimmer, Benoit Huot.
On the other hand, Hunsicker, hailing from Surrey, B.C., claimed bronze in the women’s 50 free S10 final with a time of 28.59 seconds. This achievement marked her first medal in three appearances at world championships and left her feeling overwhelmed with joy.
The Para swimming world championships will continue until September 27, showcasing outstanding performances from athletes worldwide.
