Constitution Hill recently underwent eye testing at a specialized equine clinic following a series of jumping mishaps. Previously, the eight-year-old had a flawless record with ten consecutive wins under rules.
However, signs of trouble emerged in January when he hit the last hurdle during his warm-up for the Cheltenham Festival. Although he remained a favorite, his performance in the Champion Hurdle was cut short by a fall with four hurdles remaining.
Subsequent races at Aintree and Punchestown also ended in disappointment, leaving Constitution Hill trailing in the pre-season betting odds. Despite this, his trainer expressed optimism after thorough examinations.
“We’ve left no stone unturned,” the trainer said, revealing that even an equine eye specialist was consulted. Various tests, including a bone scan, showed no significant issues, indicating the horse’s physical fitness.
Looking ahead, Constitution Hill is set to compete in upcoming events like the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle and the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton. The trainer emphasized the horse’s exceptional abilities despite recent setbacks and expressed confidence in his performance moving forward.
