Love Island is reportedly set to celebrate its 10 year anniversary with a special documentary. Some of the show’s “biggest stars” are said to be lined-up to appear in the project to coincide with the anniversary over the summer. ITV launched the current format of Love Island in June 2015, with it a revival of the previous celebrity show of the same name that ran for just two series from 2005 until 2006.
Now preparations are said to be underway for the reboot’s tenth anniversary ahead of the occasion in less than two months. It has been reported that a documentary will air ahead of the next series of Love Island to mark the special occasion. It’s been teased that former islanders will share behind-the-scenes stories whilst looking back at footage from the show.
The Sun reported that the project is expected to adopt a format similar to Channel 4‘s Gogglebox. It suggests that former islanders will look back at videos of “stand-out moments” from the eleven series that have aired since 2015.
The outlet adds that the “biggest stars” from the reality TV show’s history are set to appear in it. It named Dani Dyer, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Maura Higgins, Olivia Attwood and Zara McDermott as expected participants in the special.
A source told the Sun that fans can expect some of those involved to share behind-the-scenes details. They said: “You can expect quite a few of them to reveal some seriously behind-the-scenes stories from their time in the villa.”
The source added: “Love Island fans will be thrilled at the prospect, not least because ITV have brought back some of the show’s best known stars. This includes some of the most famous couples, some of whom are still together.”
The first series of the revived Love Island – initially hosted by the late Caroline Flack – aired between June and July in 2015. Ten more series have aired since then, with Laura Whitmore taking over from Caroline in 2020, before current host Maya Jama then replaced her in 2023.
Former islander Olivia was a finalist on the third series of Love Island, which aired back in 2017. She placed third with Chris Hughes on the dating show, which was won by Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay that year.
Dani is among the winners of the show, having won the fourth series beside Jack Fincham in 2018. Zara was on the same series of Love Island as them, though she was dumped from the villa after less than two weeks on the show.
Maura was on the following series, which ended up being won by Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea, and was a finalist. More recently, Ekin-Su and Davide Sanclimenti were crowned the winners of Love Island’s eighth series in 2022.
Since it launched a decade ago, Love Island has spawned spin-off All Stars – in which former islanders return to the villa. The show launched last year and Ekin-Su was among those who took part in the second series earlier this year.
