At least one person has died following a plane crash in the US.

The smash occurred near Phyllis Road in Cottonwood in California at approximately 3:35 p.m., with Emergency responders, including the police, fire, and medical personnel, dispatched to the crash site.

Two people were aboard the aircraft said officials, with one person reported to have pulled themselves from the aircraft wreckage before they were treated on-site by medics and then airlifted to a hospital. The pilot was injured in the crash and died shortly afterwards.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are due to arrive on Wednesday morning.

The Redding Crime and Community Alert Facebook page provided this update: “The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office and CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit are on the scene of a plane crash on Phyllis Road southwest of Cottonwood Tuesday afternoon.

“Action News Now reporter Jesse Angelo reports that as he was arriving at the scene of the incident, he observed an ambulance leaving the area.

“Authorities have taped off the area of the crash, and significant damage was observed to the wreckage of the aircraft.”

Local news outlet Action News Now reported “The Red Bluff Office of the California Highway Patrol tells Action News Now that at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, they were notified by the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office of a possible plane crash in the area of Phyllis Road.”

The fatal incident is not the first to strike this part of California in recent times.

In February 2023 a 34-year-old man was killed while flying a sports-light aircraft out of the Corning Municipal Airport when he crashed into an almond orchard.

Officials identified the victim as Rueben Lima.

Lima was flying his plane in stunt maneuvers according to a witness statement, and was in a downward trajectory when one of the plane’s wings came off.

“The aircraft dove into the almond orchard and it appears the pilot, Mr. (Rueben) Lima was killed instantly,” the witness stated.
