Canadian ski jumper Alex Loutitt will not be able to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics due to an injury to her knee sustained during a Summer Grand Prix competition. Loutitt, who clinched the world championship in 2023 and was part of Canada’s mixed team that won bronze at the 2022 Olympics, suffered the injury during an event held on the 2026 Olympic jumps in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
Following the incident, Ski Jumping Canada disclosed that Loutitt received initial treatment at a local hospital before being transferred to Innsbruck, Austria, for upcoming knee surgery. The 21-year-old athlete from Calgary is set to undergo surgery this week and is expected to undergo a one-year rehabilitation period before being cleared to resume competitive jumping.
Having made history as the first Canadian ski jumper to hold both senior and junior world titles, Loutitt’s accomplishments are notable, with 11 individual World Cup podium finishes, including two wins. Expressing her disappointment, Loutitt mentioned in a statement, “I am devastated that this injury will prevent me from representing Canada at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games. I feel like I am letting down my family, friends, and teammates, as well as the amazing sponsors who have supported me on this journey. This is the most challenging aspect for me to come to terms with.”
Despite the setback, Loutitt remains optimistic about her future in ski jumping, acknowledging the setback but emphasizing her determination to put in the necessary effort towards recovery and future success.
