Good Morning Britain hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid engaged in a heated debate on Wednesday (April 30), leaving viewers puzzled as they asked “what is going on?”
In the latest instalment of the popular ITV morning show, Ed and Susanna updated the nation with the freshest headlines from the UK and the wider world.
The conversation took a turn when regular pundits Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce joined the discussion, which quickly shifted to the growing problem of fly tipping, sparking a difference of opinion between the co-hosts.
“Let’s talk about something that is very relevant and may even unite the panel here. Fly tippers,” initiated Susanna, with Andrew immediately chiming in: “It’s terrible, it’s appalling, and it’s getting worse and worse.”
Susanna highlighted that despite the rise in fly tipping, local authorities weren’t receiving new funds to tackle the issue, although ministers have suggested that the seven per cent budget increase could be allocated for this purpose, reports the Express.
Amidst these discussions, the government has floated the idea that fly tippers might face up to five years behind bars, a move that would necessitate legal amendments.
Susanna then offered her take on a potential solution, stating: “I think bins on streets… When you come out of schools for instance and you’ve got loads of children and they’ve been to the shop and they have loads of rubbish, where do they put the rubbish? I don’t mind if they put it in my bin.”
She added: “Ed doesn’t agree with me, and I’m really confused why this is a debate.”
Ed laid out his stance, saying: “I don’t think everybody can have two bins, one in their house and then one on the street,” to which Susanna confirmed she already has an outdoor bin.
“You wouldn’t let [people] come onto your property and put rubbish in your bin. Would you put a sign up saying, ‘Bin available’? You don’t do that,” Ed argued, visibly frustrated, as the debate with Susanna intensified.
Following the segment, viewers flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their irritation.
“This debate is a load of rubbish,” one viewer commented, while another posted: “What’s the point of these two fools talking over each other. It’s just bloody noise.”
Another chimed in with: “What a racket, dear lord,” and someone else questioned: “What is going on?”
A fifth viewer expressed frustration, remarking: “These people are just pushing their way of thinking onto their viewers.”
