Liberal Democrat leaders are urging Britain to safeguard its political landscape from the influence of Nigel Farage and “Trump-proof” its policies. Calum Miller, the party’s foreign affairs spokesperson, criticized Farage as a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and accused him of aligning with aggressors over the UK’s interests.
During the party’s annual conference in Bournemouth, Miller labeled Farage a “plastic patriot” who belittled Britain during a recent visit to the US. He emphasized that Farage prioritizes backing bullies rather than challenging them, undermining key institutions crucial for the nation’s security and prosperity.
Miller stressed the necessity to fortify British politics against Trump-like figures, specifically highlighting Farage’s ambitions for the Prime Minister’s office. Additionally, Sir Ed Davey warned that Farage’s leadership would regress the country by abandoning core British values, echoing sentiments of borrowing from Trump’s America.
Sir Ed emphasized the urgent need for his party to counteract Farage’s agenda to preserve democracy and uphold British principles. He did not rule out the potential of forming a coalition with other parties to prevent Farage from assuming power. The Liberal Democrats assert a moral obligation to confront the threat posed by Farage and his detrimental policies.
