“NordSpace to Make History with First Canadian Rocket Launch”

-

A Canadian company is preparing for the first commercial rocket launch in Canada on the southern coast of Newfoundland. NordSpace is set to launch its 3D-printed metal single-engine rocket, Taiga, in St. Lawrence. The company announced that it would be on-site the following day for a potential launch.

The launch crews will keep the rocket and ground support equipment ready overnight, with the first launch window opening at 06:30 NDT. The launch is scheduled to take place during two windows, from 6:30 am to noon and 3 pm to 7 pm. NordSpace is optimistic about launching on Tuesday and Thursday, citing improved weather conditions.

Earlier attempts by NordSpace in late August were halted 58 seconds before takeoff due to an ignition issue. The upcoming suborbital launch will see the rocket in the air for about a minute before descending into the Atlantic Ocean. CEO Rahul Goel highlighted St. Lawrence’s strategic location for achieving the right orbital inclinations in a conversation with CBC News earlier this year.
