Football plays a vital role in communities across the nation. In collaboration with the Government, clubs are intensifying efforts to offer hope to young people in these communities. The current situation reveals a concerning trend where many young individuals are facing challenges in finding their path in life. Today’s youth encounter obstacles unprecedented in my generation, with the pandemic disrupting education, social interactions, and job opportunities, disrupting their daily routines.
The statistics are alarming, with one in eight young individuals not engaged in work or education. This translates to nearly a million talented individuals seeking the right support to succeed. Football clubs, along with libraries, youth centers, and other community hubs, are actively making a positive impact. They are instrumental in establishing Youth Hubs, comprehensive centers providing young people with essential resources for employment, training, career guidance, CV assistance, and mental well-being support.
With the announcement of £25 million in funding, the plan is to double the number of Hubs to nearly 200 within the next three years. This initiative aims to reach more young individuals, guiding them towards transformative employment opportunities, particularly in areas where the need is most pronounced. The positive outcomes are evident, as regions with existing Youth Hubs witness a transition of young people from unemployment to meaningful jobs and training opportunities.
This investment aligns with our broader Youth Guarantee pledge, ensuring that every 18 to 21-year-old has access to employment or educational prospects. In addition to the £45 million already allocated to support eight pioneering areas nationwide, collaborative efforts with organizations like the Youth Futures Foundation and Youth Employment UK, as well as partnerships with the Premier League and Rugby Football League, further strengthen our commitment to empowering young individuals and driving the future prosperity of Britain.
