“Drones Force Aalborg Airport Shutdown”

-

Denmark’s Aalborg Airport has been forced to cease operations due to the presence of drones in its airspace, authorities confirmed. This development occurred shortly after Copenhagen Airport also experienced a shutdown due to drone sightings, causing significant disruptions on Monday evening. Reports indicate that up to three autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles were detected flying over Aalborg Airport, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

As a result of the airport closure, several flights have been redirected to alternative airports. Flightradar relayed the closure news, stating that Aalborg Airport was inaccessible due to drone activity, leading to the diversion of three inbound flights to other locations. This incident follows recent cyber attacks that affected Heathrow Airport and other major European airports, resulting in flight cancellations and delays over the weekend, with some airports still grappling with the aftermath this week.

Furthermore, the airspace at Oslo airport in Norway was also temporarily shut down for three hours after a drone sighting. Denmark’s Prime Minister hinted at a possible Russian involvement in the drone incidents. Multiple incoming and outgoing flights have been impacted by the closure at Aalborg Airport, including flights operated by SAS, Norwegian, and KLM. Nordjyllands Police confirmed the drone presence near the airport and the subsequent closure of the airspace for investigation purposes.

In summary, Denmark’s Aalborg Airport had to suspend operations due to drone activity, mirroring similar recent events at other airports in the region.
