Newlywed Couple Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver

-

Two young newlyweds tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident involving a suspected intoxicated driver. João Pedro Prudêncio Cardoso and Maynara França Schio were on a Yamaha MT-03 motorcycle when they collided with a black Ford Ecosport driven by Dyonatha Chaves Oliveira, aged 36, who was believed to be driving under the influence. The couple, who had recently married on August 28, shared their joyous moments on social media prior to the fatal crash that occurred on the PA-160 highway in Parauapebas, Brazil, around 1am on a Sunday.

Following the accident, Oliveira received medical treatment and appeared in court the next day, facing charges of manslaughter aggravated by intoxication. While prosecutors insisted on his pretrial detention due to the severity of the offense, the defense highlighted his lack of prior criminal record, stable residence, and employment status.

Ultimately, Judge Juliana Lima Souto Augusto granted bail of £2,090 (BRL 15,000) to Oliveira, with conditions including surrendering his driver’s license, monthly court appearances, and restrictions on leaving the district without authorization. Investigations into the tragic deaths of the young couple are ongoing.

This incident comes on the heels of another harrowing collision in the UK, where a 17-year-old boy lost his life in a single-vehicle crash involving a Vauxhall Corsa on Jackson Heights Road in Lancashire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while four teenage passengers sustained minor injuries. Police reported that the car veered off the road and landed in an embankment, causing the driver to become unresponsive, with the other occupants receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
