Dear Coleen
Balancing parenthood with your relationship can be challenging, and it’s something my partner and I are experiencing. Our intimacy has dwindled due to the demands of parenting our 18-month-old daughter.
The absence of physical intimacy has made it awkward to address the issue. Luckily, his parents have offered to babysit soon, allowing us a rare weekend getaway. I’m excited but also anxious about the pressure to reconnect in a distraction-free environment.
With no specific expectations set for the weekend, apart from enjoying the break, I worry about how we can reignite our bond in this overdue quality time.
Your guidance on navigating this weekend to strengthen our relationship would be greatly appreciated.
Coleen’s Advice
It’s important to relax and enjoy each other’s company without overthinking. Let the weekend unfold naturally without preconceived notions. You might find yourselves immediately drawn to each other, or you might simply savor a long rest.
Avoid putting pressure on yourselves or forcing conversations about your relationship. Genuine discussions may arise in a relaxed setting free from distractions.
Focus on enjoying shared laughter, meals, and relaxation. By fostering a positive atmosphere, intimacy may naturally follow. And if it doesn’t, don’t stress. The weekend can still lay the foundation for rebuilding intimacy in your relationship.
