Child and Grandmother Hospitalized After Electricity Pole Collapse

-

A young child and his grandmother were swiftly taken to the hospital in Gran Canaria after an electricity pole collapsed on them. The incident occurred on Barranquera Honda Street in the municipality of Firgas at 6:38 pm on Wednesday, September 24. The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1 1 2 of the Canary Islands government received multiple calls reporting a truck entangled in the cables of a utility pole, leading to its collapse onto the child and his grandmother.

Emergency responders, including volunteer firefighters from Firgas, the Civil Guard, and three vehicles from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), rushed to the location. The child, aged seven, sustained severe injuries and was transported by a medical ambulance to the Maternal and Child University Hospital of the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, the grandmother, with moderate injuries, was taken to the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria.

On the same day, authorities confirmed the discovery of a body in the search for a missing British tourist in Spain. The unidentified man was found deceased in the woods near the Costa Brava resort of Lloret de Mar. Police, firefighters, and emergency medical teams responded to the scene. While the cause of death remains unclear, initial investigations suggest no signs of foul play. The UK police have been informed, and the missing tourist’s family has been notified pending formal identification.

UK holidaymaker Josh Rogers has been missing for several days, and there are suspicions that the discovered body may belong to him. Authorities are awaiting test results for official confirmation but indicate a high likelihood that the deceased individual is indeed the British tourist.
