“Lack of Action: London Homeowner Endures 5-Month Roof Repair Delay”

-

A homeowner in London is experiencing delays in repairing her damaged roof after a storm hit her neighborhood nearly five months ago. Kirsten Smith’s house in the Byron area was struck by a severe storm on April 29, causing a pine tree in her backyard to split, resulting in significant damage to her roof, windows, soffits, and eavestroughs.

Smith promptly contacted her insurer, TD Insurance, and was initially granted coverage. She took immediate action by hiring a contractor to remove the fallen tree and install a temporary tarp on her roof for safety. However, progress stalled after the insurance company’s preferred contractor inspected the property, leaving essential repairs incomplete.

Despite ongoing communication with TD Insurance over the past five months, Smith expressed frustration over the slow response and lack of action. The insurer requested various reports and quotes from contractors, leading to significant delays in the repair process. Smith highlighted the disruptive impact on her daily life and the financial burden of temporary fixes she had to implement herself.

The unresolved roof damage has caused additional problems for Smith, including raccoons entering her attic through the hole in the roof and water pooling against her house due to missing eavestroughs, resulting in basement flooding. The situation has forced her family to make significant adjustments, such as relocating her son to a different room and constantly monitoring water flow during rainy weather.

Smith emphasized the need for timely progress from TD Insurance to ensure the safety and stability of her home, especially with winter approaching. Despite the challenges faced, she remains hopeful for a resolution to the ongoing repair delays.
