Canadian Swimming Prodigy Summer McIntosh Withdraws from World Cup Opener

-

Canadian swimming prodigy Summer McIntosh has pulled out of the upcoming opening leg of the World Cup tour in Carmel, Indiana due to an unexpected illness. In a social media post, McIntosh expressed her disappointment at missing the event but emphasized the competitive field of top swimmers participating. Having been in Carmel preparing for the competition, McIntosh is now focused on recuperating, with uncertainty surrounding her participation in the subsequent event in Westmount, Illinois. The World Cup tour, featuring prominent athletes from the Olympics and world championships, offers a substantial prize pool of $1.2 million, with an additional $10,000 prize for any swimmer setting a world record during the competition. McIntosh, along with fellow Canadian swimmers like Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse, Mary-Sophie Harvey, and Ilya Kharun, had signed up for the tour. Notable international swimmers set to compete include Leon Marchand, Noe Ponti, Mollie O’Callaghan, Regan Smith, Thomas Ceccon, and Kaylee McKeown. McIntosh, who recently relocated to Austin, Texas to train under renowned coach Bob Bowman, had an outstanding performance at the world aquatics championships earlier this year, clinching four gold medals and a bronze, a remarkable feat in swimming history.
