-

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime suffered a loss in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters tournament on Friday. The Montreal native was defeated by Arthur Rinderknech of France in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Despite firing eight aces during the match, Auger-Aliassime failed to capitalize on his three break-point opportunities against his opponent, who successfully converted both of his chances.

Rinderknech is now set to play against the victor of the quarterfinal match between Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Australian Alex de Minaur. Meanwhile, in the other semifinal clash, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic will face Poland’s Valentin Vacherot.

In a separate event, Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominant performance at Wuhan by securing a 6-3, 6-3 win over eighth-seeded Elena Rybakina, extending her winning streak to 20 matches at the WTA 1000-level tournament. The U.S. Open champion, who previously won the Wuhan Open title in 2018, ’19, and last year, expressed her satisfaction with the victory and her history of challenging battles against Rybakina.

Sabalenka will now compete against sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, with Pegula coming off a resilient victory over Katerina Siniakova. In other quarterfinal matches, Iga Swiatek faced Jasmine Paolini, and Coco Gauff was scheduled to play against Laura Siegemund.
