Hiker’s Frozen Body Found in Glacier After 25 Years

-

The frozen body of a hiker who went missing over 25 years ago has been discovered preserved in a glacier, solving a long-standing mystery from 1997. Authorities were alerted when an ID card with the name Naseeruddin was found on the body, linking it to the hiker who disappeared after reportedly falling into a crevice during a snowstorm in Pakistan.

Shepherd Omar Khan recounted his surprising find to the BBC, stating that the body was remarkably intact without any damage to the clothing. After confirming the identity as Naseeruddin, locals shared more details about the circumstances leading to his tragic end.

Naseeruddin, accompanied by his brother Kathiruddin, was trekking on horseback when he disappeared. According to reports, a family dispute prompted the brothers to leave home together, reaching Lady Valley where Naseeruddin entered a cave and never returned.

Despite extensive search efforts, Naseeruddin remained missing for nearly three decades until his body was discovered on August 1, remarkably well-preserved by the glacier’s extreme conditions. DNA tests were conducted to confirm his identity, although his facial features were distinctive enough for family and friends to recognize him.

The discovery provided closure to Naseeruddin’s family, dispelling earlier speculations of foul play during his journey. The region where he was found, Kohistan, is renowned for its natural beauty and serves as a popular seasonal destination for local herders.

This case mirrors a similar incident in Peru where climber William Stampfl was found mummified in ice 22 years after disappearing in an avalanche on Huascaran mountain. Stampfl’s body remained concealed under snow for two decades despite extensive search efforts at the time.
