French video game “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” emerged victorious as the game of the year at The Game Awards held in Los Angeles. The indie game dominated the awards ceremony, securing a total of nine accolades, including best game direction, best narrative, and best independent game, following its 12 nominations.

Developed by Sandfall and Kepler Interactive, the game is a role-playing adventure set in a dark fantasy realm where a group of characters strives to break a recurring curse that claims lives of individuals above a certain age annually.

During the event, the game’s director, Guillaume Broche, expressed gratitude towards his team and YouTube creators who provide tutorials, as he accepted the prestigious award for the best game of the year. He acknowledged the players for their support, fan art, and discussions on the game’s various endings, emphasizing the significant impact they had on the development team and the studio.

Other notable winners included “Battlefield 6” for best audio design, “Mario Kart World” for best sports/racing game, and the highly anticipated “Grand Theft Auto 6” receiving the recognition for the most awaited game. Additionally, the second season of “The Last of Us” TV series won the best adaptation award.

The awards ceremony also featured exciting announcements for upcoming games. Viewers were treated to a sneak peek of the next installments in the “Tomb Raider” series, with Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics unveiling “Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis” and “Tomb Raider: Catalyst,” continuing Lara Croft’s epic adventures.

Star Wars enthusiasts were thrilled with trailers for new games like “Fate of the Old Republic” and “Galactic Racer,” expanding the universe of beloved film characters. Fans were delighted to learn that Leon S. Kennedy would be a second protagonist in the upcoming title “Resident Evil Requiem.”

Furthermore, Larian Studios, known for “Baldur’s Gate 3,” introduced a new game titled “Divinity,” adding to their impressive portfolio. The return of musician Pedro Eustache, fondly known as “flute guy,” in the orchestra’s final performance also sparked joy among Reddit users.
