“Apple unveils upgraded AirTag with enhanced range and Precision Finding”

-

Apple’s AirTag has become a must-have for those who frequently lose their keys. Launched in 2021, these small disc-shaped trackers have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint the exact location of lost items on a map. Due to their compact size, AirTags can easily be attached to keys, placed in bags, laptop cases, or luggage.

When in close proximity to the AirTag, your iPhone provides precise on-screen directions, and the AirTag can emit a sound to aid in locating it. The latest iteration of the AirTag has been unveiled, featuring an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip that significantly enhances its range.

Apple claims that this upgrade improves Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it easier to locate misplaced items from greater distances. Additionally, Precision Finding now works on select Apple Watch models, enabling users to track down lost items directly from their wrist for the first time.

The new AirTag boasts a redesigned internal speaker that produces sounds 50% louder than its predecessor, making it more convenient to find when hidden away. Similar to the previous version, AirTags leverage Apple’s extensive Find My network, which anonymously utilizes nearby Apple devices to relay location updates to the owner. The system has been revamped with a focus on privacy, ensuring that AirTags do not store location history and all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end for the owner’s eyes only.

The latest AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature that allows users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to assist in recovering lost belongings. More than 50 airlines have already partnered with Apple to support this feature.

The new AirTag is now available for ordering on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming later in the week. Additionally, pricing starts at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original AirTag, which launched at £35.
