Google to End Chrome Support for Older macOS Versions

-

Google has announced that it will stop supporting its Chrome browser on older versions of Apple’s macOS platform, affecting MacBook users. While Chrome will still work on MacBooks and iMacs, it will no longer receive updates or security patches, potentially leaving users vulnerable to cybersecurity threats.

The change will take effect in July, with Google discontinuing Chrome updates for Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or older. Users on these platforms will need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to continue using Chrome securely. However, some older Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Airs bought before 2018, may not be compatible with Ventura, requiring users to consider purchasing a new device.

According to Google, Chrome 150 will be the final version to support macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome 151, scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users are advised to transition to macOS 13 or newer to receive future Chrome updates and security features.

While older versions of Chrome will still function on unsupported operating systems, no further updates will be provided. Google encourages users on macOS 12 (Monterey) to upgrade to a supported macOS version to ensure they continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features.
