“Quebec Court OKs Ticketmaster Class-Action Lawsuit”

-

The Quebec Superior Court has approved a class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster for alleged unfair service fees on ticket transactions. Justice Eleni Yiannakis ruled that the plaintiffs have met the criteria for a full trial and could be eligible for compensatory refunds if successful.

The lawsuit, initiated by Montreal-based law firm Paquette Gadler, contends that Ticketmaster’s service fees contravene Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act and Civil Code. The legal action asserts that Ticketmaster’s fee structure, which fluctuates based on ticket prices rather than the actual service cost, is deemed exploitative.

The lawsuit was initiated in August 2024 on behalf of plaintiff Felipe Morales, encompassing Quebec residents who have purchased tickets through Ticketmaster for North American events since July 2021.

Ticketmaster, a global ticketing company for concerts, sports events, and other entertainment, did not provide an immediate response to requests for comment following Monday’s court ruling.
