Chuck Lorre’s Hidden Messages Tradition Ends with Series Finale

-

The conclusion of the series finale marked the end of show creator Chuck Lorre’s tradition of including hidden messages in each episode.

The iconic theme song of “The Big Bang Theory” was penned by Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies. This creative endeavor was sparked when Robertson spontaneously performed a song about the universe during a live show in LA, inspired by a book titled “The Big Bang: The Origin of the Universe” by Simon Singh. Unbeknownst to him, Chuck Lorre was among the audience members that night and subsequently approached the Barenaked Ladies to compose the theme song for his new sitcom, “The Big Bang Theory.”

Written just half an hour before its debut, Robertson’s shower-inspired composition won Lorre over, solidifying its place as the show’s iconic theme. The sitcom went on to become a beloved favorite, attracting nearly 18 million viewers for its final episode.

Throughout its 12-year run, “The Big Bang Theory” delighted fans with hidden Easter eggs and recurring gags. Notably, each episode concluded with a brief card displaying a cryptic message from Chuck Lorre. These one-second messages, often mistaken for standard disclaimers, were unique to Lorre’s shows, dating back to 1995 with series like “Grace Under Fire,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Mike & Molly,” and “Dharma & Greg.”

Lorre’s end-credit messages ranged from humorous musings to personal reflections, capturing his quirky philosophy and sense of humor. These fleeting insights were eventually compiled into a book titled “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Bitter,” encapsulating Lorre’s unorthodox storytelling approach through these blink-and-you’ll-miss-it messages.

The legacy of “The Big Bang Theory” extends beyond its on-screen charm, resonating with audiences through Lorre’s subtle yet impactful parting words in each episode.
