Singer D4vd is under investigation by a Los Angeles County grand jury regarding the death of a 14-year-old girl whose decomposed body was discovered in a Tesla registered to him. Court documents have revealed that the 20-year-old alt-pop artist, known legally as David Burke and originally from Houston, is the subject of the inquiry, with prosecutors seeking testimony from three of his relatives.
The grand jury subpoenas, issued on January 15, were unsealed in Texas after an appeal by the singer’s mother, father, and brother. The documents suggest that the individual under investigation could be implicated in committing a Murder offense in accordance with California laws.
According to court filings, the Tesla, a 2023 Model Y, was registered in D4vd’s name at the address of his family members who were summoned. While authorities have not publicly labeled D4vd as a suspect, the deceased body of Celeste Rivas Hernandez was found in the vehicle a day after what would have been her 15th birthday. Authorities state that she was 14 at the time of her death, although she was reported missing at the age of 13 from Lake Elsinore, located approximately 112 kilometers southeast of Los Angeles.
Investigating officers discovered a cadaver bag in the vehicle at a tow yard, emitting a strong odor of decay and infested with insects. The bag contained a decomposed head and torso, with additional body parts found in a separate bag within the vehicle.
D4vd’s representatives have not responded to requests for comments on the case, and the District Attorney’s Office has chosen not to provide any statements. A Texas judge has ordered the singer’s family members to comply with the subpoenas and testify in California.
The Tesla, which appeared abandoned, had been towed from a posh Hollywood Hills neighborhood. Despite the grim discovery, D4vd continued performing shows until reports linking him to the case surfaced, leading to the cancellation of his remaining concerts and a European tour.
The Medical Examiner’s Office had earlier stated that Rivas Hernandez’s body was severely decomposed, indicating she had been deceased for an extended period before being found. An autopsy report has not been released as Los Angeles police successfully obtained a court order preventing its disclosure.
