Author Rachel Reid has decided to postpone the release of her upcoming hockey romance novel, “Unrivaled,” due to the challenges of sudden fame and the exacerbated symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Originally scheduled for this fall, Reid announced in a video message on Instagram that the book is now expected to be delayed until June 2027.
“Unrivaled” will mark the seventh installment in Reid’s popular “Game Changer” series, focusing on the hockey rivalry and secret romance between Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The first two books in the series, “Heated Rivalry” and “The Long Game,” have already been adapted into the hit Crave original series, garnering widespread acclaim and propelling Reid to literary stardom.
In her Instagram post, Reid shared that recent changes in her life have limited her writing time, emphasizing her dedication to ensuring that “Unrivaled” meets the highest standards. She acknowledged the balancing act of experiencing both positive and challenging circumstances, revealing that her Parkinson’s symptoms have progressed, slowing down her writing process.
The author disclosed that she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2023, around the time filmmaker Jacob Tierney expressed interest in adapting her works. Tierney’s adaptation of Reid’s novels has been well-received, earning a second season on Crave and HBO Max, where it became a top-rated series during its initial run.
