Mondo Duplantis set a new world record in pole vaulting, reaching a height of 6.29 meters at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial meet held in Budapest. The Olympic and world champion surpassed his previous record, achieved in June at a Diamond League event in Stockholm, by adding a centimeter on his second attempt.
This marked Duplantis’ 13th pole vault world record at the age of 25, with three records broken this year alone. Despite being born in Louisiana, Duplantis represents Sweden, his mother’s home country.
In Budapest, Duplantis once again showcased his dominance by clearing 6.11 meters on his second try before going on to break the world record on his subsequent attempt. He expressed his gratitude to the supportive crowd, stating, “I love the crowd, I want to come back. Thank you.”
This victory in Budapest adds to Duplantis’ achievements, as he had previously defended his world title in 2023 by achieving a height of 6.10 meters in the Hungarian capital.
