Canada’s Abigail Strate secured a bronze medal in ski jumping at the Summer Grand Prix, marking her fourth consecutive podium finish. The 24-year-old athlete from Calgary amassed 116.4 points in Wisla, Poland, with Slovenia’s Nika Prevc clinching the gold with 126.2 points and Japan’s Nozomi Maruyama claiming silver with 117.5 points.
Expressing her affinity for summer competitions, Strate, who also works as a graphic designer, stated, “I’m a summer person for sure. I like the sun and have always liked jumping in the summer. The last time I jumped well in the summer, it carried into the whole year so hopefully this is a good omen for me.”
Nicole Maurer from Calgary, the only other Canadian participant in the competitive field, finished in 26th place. Strate, who previously won bronze in the mixed team ski jumping event at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, became the second Canadian ski jumper to medal in consecutive events on consecutive weekends, following her teammate Alex Loutitt.
Her successful streak began with a bronze in France, marking her first summer ski jumping podium. Subsequently, she secured her first international victory the next day, followed by another bronze in Poland on Saturday. Reflecting on her achievements, Strate shared, “In my heart, this is so fun, and I have many positive emotions. It feels great for me now, but I know this isn’t when I want to be great. I really hope this can last until the start of the winter and through the season.”
