In a recurrence of violence, Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, B.C., was targeted with gunfire for the second time in a month. The latest shooting incident at Kap’s Cafe occurred early Thursday morning in Surrey’s Newton neighborhood. Police responded to reports of shots fired at the café on 120th Street around 4:40 a.m. PT.
During a press briefing, Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton revealed the discovery of a suspicious bottle at the scene, resembling a Molotov cocktail or a similar device. The officers will conduct tests to determine the nature of the object found.
This marks the second shooting incident at Kap’s Cafe, following a prior attack on July 10. Despite the café only recently opening on July 3, it has already faced two violent incidents. Houghton confirmed that the investigation into the July shooting remains ongoing.
Fortunately, no staff members were harmed in both the recent and previous incidents, as they were inside the café baking when the shootings occurred. While there is no concrete evidence linking the attacks to extortion, investigators are exploring all possible motives, including the rising concern for South Asian businesses.
Houghton cautioned the public about a circulating video related to the recent shooting and urged people to be cautious about information shared on social media. He emphasized the importance of relying on factual evidence to guide the investigation process.
Kapil Sharma, the café’s owner, is a renowned Indian comedian and entertainer with a massive following on Instagram. Local resident Chetan Singh expressed concern about the safety of the community following the violent attacks and hoped for the swift apprehension of the perpetrator.
Anyone with information about the shootings or individuals with relevant footage from the area is urged to contact the Surrey Police Service or Crime Stoppers. The community remains on edge as authorities work to ensure the safety and security of businesses and residents in the area.
