Andrea Mitrovic led the team with 17 points, helping Canada secure a 3-1 victory over Bulgaria in their first match at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship held in Thailand. The set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, and 25-18.

Canada dominated in attack points (51-46), blocks (13-6), and aces (5-3), capitalizing on Bulgaria’s serve rotation errors in the second set. Nyadholi Thokbuom, the Canadian middle blocker, contributed 15 points from 12 kills and three blocks.

Ranked 12th in the world, Canada competes in Pool E alongside Bulgaria, Turkey, and Spain. Turkey, ranked sixth globally, leads the pool after defeating Spain 3-0. Canada is scheduled to face Spain next on Monday.

Head coach Giovanni Guidetti expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “It was a crucial match for us, and we were prepared to fight. Our game quality was impressive for most of the match. Our focus is now on Spain, a potentially formidable opponent known for their quick gameplay.”
