“Albanian Siblings Accused of Running £335M Drug Syndicate”

-

Allegations have surfaced against two Albanian siblings for orchestrating a massive drug syndicate worth £335 million from a car wash establishment in Bournemouth. Klevis Hoxhosmani, aged 37, and his brother Artur Hoxhosmani, aged 42, were reportedly involved in one of the largest drug-smuggling networks in Europe, using cocaine trafficking proceeds to support their extravagant lifestyle.

Both brothers were apprehended in August following a spree of spending on luxury items such as yachts, high-end cars, and upscale residences. The operation allegedly involved at least 16 accomplices. The siblings, known as troublesome neighbors in Dorset, have been linked to a lavish lifestyle showcased on social media, including trips to exclusive destinations like Dubai, Monaco, and London.

The criminal organization purportedly concealed cocaine within shipments of cocoa beans, bananas, and timber, moving the illicit substances across European ports and land routes with the aid of legitimate trucking firms. To evade detection, they utilized the Hawala money transfer system, a traditional method for transferring money outside of conventional banking channels, until it was compromised by Albanian authorities.

The brothers boast a collection of luxurious properties in Albania, including prime locations in Tirana and along the Ionian coast, in addition to several businesses registered under Klevis Hoxhosmani. However, their alleged criminal enterprise is under scrutiny by Albania’s Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), resulting in the seizure of assets like a yacht and a fleet of high-end vehicles.

SPAK claims to have confiscated firearms, luxury watches, mobile phones, and bank cards from the group. Prosecutors in Albania have implicated the transnational crime network in a significant cocaine seizure in France in 2020, with encrypted messages on the ‘Sky ECC’ platform revealing their shock at the interception of a lucrative drug shipment.

Albanian police assert that large quantities of narcotics were transported to various European locations, including ports in Belgium and the UK, facilitated by unsuspecting truck drivers employed by legitimate companies. Klevis and Artur appeared in court in Tirana recently and are being held in custody pending a full trial.

Allegedly, the brothers established connections with corrupt port officials to facilitate cocaine trafficking from South America to the UK through European routes. The UK’s National Crime Agency is reportedly collaborating with Albanian authorities as part of a coordinated effort to combat international drug trafficking.

Albanian prosecutors have commended the cooperation among law enforcement agencies, emphasizing the success of the investigation spearheaded by SPAK as a result of close inter-institutional and international coordination.
