Aldi’s post-Easter 9p offer ‘so cheap’ shoppers convinced it’s a ‘glitch’

Must read

Aldi shoppers say the supermarket’s latest post-Easter offer is the “bargain of the century” for chocolate lovers. Customers only notice the deal once they get to the checkout, as the budget grocery store has quietly reduced the price of all its Easter chocolate that didn’t sell before Sunday, April 20.

People took to social media to share that many sweet treats were slashed from their usual price to as little as 9p. Some of the more expensive, branded Easter eggs, including Creme Eggs and other Cadbury products, were scanned at the till at mere pennies compared to their previous prices.

One Instagram account (@Newfoodsuk) urged followers to “run to Aldi” for the cheap chocolate before bargain hunters wipe clean shelves. It’s not just Easter eggs that are on offer, though; the user’s video also showed discounted lollipops and hot chocolate bombs.

Even luxury eggs – like Aldi’s Double Indulgence range – that were £11.99 are now scanning through at the checkout for just 9p, according to customers online. People were pleased that part of the Free From range was also included, catering for those who cannot enjoy a traditional chocolate treat.

One Instagram user in the comment section shared their experience, writing: “I got a couple of eggs from my local Aldi after seeing this video. The labels weren’t reduced for these so I wasn’t sure if I would get it for 9p but when I went to the checkout sure enough they’re 9p! Nobody knows this in my local Aldi as there’s quite a few left!”

Another wrote: “I thought it was a glitch at first!” A third added: “I PAID £9 FOR THAT BUBBLE TEA ONE AND NOW IT’S 9P?”

Over on TikTok, the original creator of the video shared: “We spoke to an Aldi manager today and were told they’re reduced due to over stock so they’ve all been majorly reduced.” They added: “We regularly see stock for 9p if they’re trying to get rid of it for space.”

And, the deal wasn’t just shared on Instagram. Over on Facebook, Snack Reviews founder Daniel Chubb posted a haul of four Easter treats.

It included two Aldi-own eggs (including the £11.99 Double Indulgence and the £7.99 Dairyfine Bubble Tea ‘egg’) as well as a large Creme Egg and a medium Galaxy. He said: “For the doubters, these are the four eggs all 9p each from this morning in ALDI with a receipt.”

People were reacting on that post too. One wrote: “My Aldi had the eggs priced at full price but scanned at 9p, my kids were buzzing. I gave them a quid and said get what you want!”

Another posted: “My partner just came home with what he called ‘the bargain of the century’. Two big bags full for under £2!” The deal should be available at Aldi stores while stocks last. If you’re keen to get your hands on any extra Easter treats, find your nearest Aldi here.
