Alejandro Garnacho makes statement on Manchester United transfer exit

Must read

Alejandro Garnacho insists he is happy at Manchester United amid onging uncertainty over the winger’s future. Garnacho has established himself as a regular starter under United boss Ruben Amorim, since being left out of the squad completely for December’s 2-1 win at Manchester City.

Argentina international Garnacho has been linked with a move to Chelsea or Napoli this summer, with United demanding at least £65million for the 20-year-old attacker. But Garnacho said: “Obviously as a footballer you read and listen to some rumours about the future, but I have a contract here until 2028. I am happy here

“We know we have to work hard here to be even in the squad and I just have to train well every day and I will be available for all the games.”

Garnacho admitted it had been hard for him to adapt to Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, in which occupies a more central attacking role, rather than his more natural position as a winger.

“I think it’s not easy when, in the middle of the season, you change the manager and all the staff,” said Garnacho. “It’s difficult for everyone when a new manager comes in and we change the formation, but we just need to follow the rules and I’m trying to improve every day.

“I think it’s a little bit hard but it is the mentality. The first two months, November and December, were very difficult for me, but my mentality is to keep working.

“In my mind it is always try to work hard every day and show the manager I need to play and that is the only thing I need to do.

“I try to help the team and try to win games. We are missing chances, but we are training really hard, me Rasmus [Hojlund] and all the strikers and we will try to do better. We train hard to try to score more chances.”

Matthijs de Ligt looks set to miss the Europa League clash against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday night after sitting out of training on Wednesday. United midfielder Christian Eriksen missed the session but is expected to be available on Thursday.

Noussair Mazraoui was back in training after being rested against Brentford at the weekend, and Ayden Heaven did separate work away from the main group at Carrington as he continues his recovery from injury. Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Joshua Zirkzee and Toby Collyer remain out.

Man Utd Likely Starting XI (3-4-2-1): Onana; Lindelof, Maguire, Yoro; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu; Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund
