Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has advanced to the final of the European Open after defeating Belgium’s Raphael Collignon in the semifinals of the tennis tournament. The Montreal native clinched the victory with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-4, showcasing a strong performance with eight aces and just one double fault, while maintaining an impressive 78% first-serve points won rate. Auger-Aliassime also capitalized on one of his three break-point opportunities during the one-hour, 45-minute match. In contrast, Collignon, who managed five aces but struggled with four double faults, failed to create any break-point chances.
Auger-Aliassime, seeded second, is set to face off against Jiri Lehecka from Czechia, the third seed, in the final scheduled for Sunday.
Meanwhile, in another tournament, Canada’s Denis Shapovalov fell short of advancing to the ATP title match. The player from Richmond Hill, Ontario, was defeated by Norway’s Casper Ruud in the Stockholm Open semifinals, with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Shapovalov, seeded third, recorded six aces and four double faults, managing to convert on one of his five break-point opportunities. On the other hand, Ruud, the second seed, secured victory with two aces and effective performance on break points, converting three out of six chances.
Ruud is now set to face France’s Ugo Humbert in the final following a walkover win against top-seeded Holger Rune from Denmark, who suffered an injury during the second set.
