“Bad Bunny Regains Spotify Throne, Tops Taylor Swift”

The festive season is upon us, bringing the annual treat for enthusiasts of year-end data, music, and marketing: Spotify Wrapped. Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican sensation, has reclaimed his title as the most-played artist on Spotify for the fourth time, surpassing Taylor Swift.

Spotify recently unveiled its yearly recap, offering its vast global audience a glimpse into their top songs, artists, podcasts, and other audio content that defined their listening experience throughout the year. Wrapped, introduced about a decade ago, has emerged as one of the most eagerly anticipated annual features, despite facing some user criticism.

Bad Bunny, known for his diverse musical style, secured the top spot as the most-streamed artist globally in 2025, amassing over 19.8 billion streams. Following him in the rankings were Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Drake, and Billie Eilish, in that order.

In the past two years, Taylor Swift had dominated the global charts, reigning supreme in 2023 and retaining her position in 2024. Bad Bunny had previously held the top spot for three consecutive years starting in 2020, and now, he has reclaimed his throne.

Among the top albums globally, Bad Bunny’s “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos” led the pack, followed by the soundtrack of “KPop Demon Hunters” and releases from 2024 including Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” SZA’s “SOS Deluxe: LANA,” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet.”

The most-streamed song title went to the collaboration between Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga with “Die with a Smile,” accumulating more than 1.7 billion streams. This was followed by Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” Mars and Rose’s “APT.,” Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” and Bad Bunny’s “DtMF.”

Spotify compiles Wrapped reports by collecting listening data from January 1 to around mid-November, enabling them to deliver the recap to users by early December. Listening habits in late November and December are not included in the report. To make it to the Spotify Wrapped lists, users must meet specific listening criteria based on tracks, artists, and albums.

Spotify’s Wrapped this year introduces new features such as “Top Albums,” a fan leaderboard, and a “Listening Age” feature for personalized comparisons. Additionally, the “Wrapped Party” feature allows users to engage interactively with their Wrapped data alongside other Spotify users.

In response to feedback from the previous year, Spotify has reinstated features like “Top Genres” and enhanced existing features like “Top Songs.” The use of artificial intelligence in compiling Wrapped has evolved this year, with a focus on the Archive feature that analyzes listening patterns on specific days.

Despite some speculation around the role of AI, Spotify emphasizes the human creativity and effort involved in curating Wrapped each year. The integration of technology like AI aids in enhancing the product to cater to the platform’s vast user base of over 700 million.

The evolution of Spotify Wrapped continues to excite users and provide insights into their unique listening habits and preferences.
