“Beat the Heat with Kiwi-Ginger Green Tea Refresher”

-

In the warm summer months, iced tea becomes a popular choice, especially when infused with fruits like kiwi and ginger. This vibrant and easy-to-make version includes green tea, ginger, kiwis, and lime, making it a refreshing option for picnics or outdoor gatherings. For an added twist, you can mix in a splash of gin or enjoy it as is.

For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
– 1 cup water
– 1-inch piece of grated ginger
– 5 green tea bags
– 3 peeled and chopped (or blended) green or golden kiwis
– Juice of 1 lime
– ½ cup agave (adjust to taste)
– 3 cups ice water, divided
– 2 cups ice

To serve, gather:
– Ice
– Cold sparkling water
– Mint sprigs
– 1 peeled and sliced green or golden kiwi

To prepare the tea, start by simmering 1 cup of water in a saucepan with grated ginger for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, add green tea bags, and let them steep for 5 minutes. Pour in 1 cup of ice water to prevent bitterness and steep for an additional 10 minutes. Strain the tea into a jar, seal it, and refrigerate.

In a pitcher, mix the kiwis, lime juice, and agave. Use a muddler to mash the fruit, then add ice and ice water. Pour in the chilled tea, stir well, and refrigerate for up to 2 days.

When serving, fill a glass with ice, stir the tea concentrate, and pour it two-thirds full. Top it off with sparkling water and garnish with mint and kiwi slices.
