The Toronto Blue Jays, leading the AL East, acquired Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Pittsburgh Pirates via waivers. This move led to the transfer of injured pitcher Yimi Garcia to the 60-day injured list due to needing elbow surgery, which will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Kiner-Falefa, who batted .264 with one home run and 35 RBIs in 119 games for the Pirates this season, has been in the league for eight years and previously played for the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees. He recently signed a two-year, $15 million US contract with Toronto before the 2024 season. Kiner-Falefa had a stint with the Blue Jays, playing 83 games, before being traded to Pittsburgh at last year’s trade deadline.
